what kind of Oscar are you hoping for? Original screenplay or?

I AM SO GLAD YOU ASKED! Because it's always been adapted screenplay, but lately I've been wondering what a Supporting Actress Oscar would feel like next to it!

Not too shockingly, director feels great but impossible. It's still so sexist of a category. Sigh.

How about you?!

thank you for asking! a few years ago as I was watching the oscars I realized that I was most envious of the HOST of the show, not the oscar contenders themselves. I listened to that envy and started getting on stage more, even trying stand up comedy...who knows maybe one day they'll want an elder millennial (read: old person) to host!

OBVIOUSLY the host. Yes. I can’t wait for you to host the year I win. We can celebrate together. I am all here for this.

Also I’m taking a sketch comedy class through UCLA that’s great, if you want a course you can take online.

oooh yes please! tell me more about this class, might be just what I'm looking for

It’s funny how the things we don’t think are that marketable but we are passionate about end up being what resonates the most with everyone. Love that you are returning to letters!

Lauren Marie Fleming's avatar

Yes! This! I have to remember again and again that passion is the best marketing.

omg I love everything about this! I love the voiceover, the idea of letters, and all of the recommendations.

I needed this post. The part about creating content just to check a box is all too true.:(

"None of us need more content these days - but we could all use more connection." YES! I'm obsessed with THAT!

I'm glad you loved the VoiceOver! I was thinking that I wanted to send letters and voice notes like I do with my friends, so that feature was a great option.

Content to check a box is so exhausting for everyone.

What are you loving these days to read instead?

I'm big on voice notes, too. Sometimes they turn into mini-podcasts for me. LOL.

I just started reading Wintering: The Power of Rest and Retreat in Difficult Times by Katherine May. The title felt very hygge to me, but we'll see. 😉

I'd love some recommendations if you have any.

I'm loving reading personal essays again on Substack.

I'm also really enjoying listening to the Dungeon Crawler Carl series. It's only on Amazon, so I had to suck it up and get an account, but it was worth it.

Have you heard of them? So fun, like you're going through a video game, and really great on audiobook.

Plus, I met the author at a conference this summer and he was a kind and funny guy, which is always a plus for supporting a series for me. https://amzn.to/4b75t3g

The book Wintering was helpful to me the past couple of winters. I hope it resonates with you too! Let me know if you like it.
